In the most recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Nicki Minaj reveals that she had an abortion as a teen. Of the abortion she said, “I thought I was going to die… It was the hardest thing I have ever gone through… It has haunted me all my life.” In her new album, the Pinkprint, she refers to her abortion when she raps the lines, “My child with Aaron, would’ve have been sixteen, any minute,” in the song, “All Things Go.” Minaj joins a list of celebrity women who have recently opened up about their painful experience with abortion. Minaj gets touchingly vulnerable in her recent interviews, telling Complex magazine in November that, “If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed as a woman because I feel like I was put here to be a mother.” No doubt her disappointment would be compounded by the chance to be a mother that was so violently taken from her. Unsurprisingly, Minaj still clings to the label pro-choice, telling Rolling Stone, “It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”
