How secret was Monday night’s secret show to cap off Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 30 Days in LA? Secret enough that nobody — not insiders or outsiders or security guards or VIP debutantes — had any idea Nicki Minaj was in the building until the telltale pinkprints (the cover art from her most recent album) appeared on the stage screens at the Teragram Ballroom.

In past performances, Minaj has tended to tease out her set quietly with something relatable and broken-hearted, such as “All Things Go.” But the first time we see her, dressed in blue lace, is mid-saunter to the luscious, tropical synths of the 2010 stone-cold classic “Super Bass.” The whole world was on her side within seconds.
